Boundaries: A Memoir by Roger Knight

New book published by JW McKenzie

Roger Knight had the good fortune to grow up at a time when it was still possible, with sympathetic employers, to combine the two great callings of his life: playing cricket each summer and teaching in schools in the winter terms.
It helped that he had outstanding ability in both fields.
As schoolmaster he rose through the ranks to become headmaster of Workshop College.
As a cricketer he was a first-rate county batsman, scoring 1,000 runsin a season 13 times, adn a useful medium-pace bowler, epecially in the limited-over game where he won 10 man-of-the-match awards.
He was also a successful captain of Surrey, reviving the county’s fortunes after a lean spell.
In 1993, he was appointed Secretary of MCC, overseeing great changes, not least the introduction of women to membership, the writing of a new edition of the game’s laws and the sympathetic redevelopment of the Lord’s ground.

In Boundaries he tells the story of his life, looking back with a gentle, often self-deprecating humour on his days as a cricketer/schoolmaster, then examining in detail some of the key issues that MCC faced during his time as Secretary/Chief Executive.
He concludes the book by reflecting on his Christian faith and reproducing some of the witty dinner graces for which he is famous.

The hardbound edition published by the one and only JW McKenzie has a dustjacket bearing the portrait of Roger Knight painted by Barbados-based David Skinner.
