Daniel Vettori, born January 27, 1979, was not supremely talented. However, the effect he had on New Zealand and world cricket was rather magical. 4500 plus Test runs alongside 362 wickets do not come easy.
It is perhaps more than coincidence that his resemblance to Harry Potter was both remarkable and remarked upon, especially since the year of his Test debut coincided with the appearance of the boy wizard under the staircase at 4 Privet Drive.
He did not turn out for Gryffindor, but did so with plenty of success for the Black Caps.
