On February 3, 1951, was born George Robert Canning Harris, 4th Baron Harris.
This past captain of England scored 145 runs in 4 Tests inclusive of one half century. In first-class cricket he scored 9990 runs with 11 hundreds.
Lord Harris played one of the most important roles in establishing cricket in India when he was the lieutenant governor of the presidency of Bombay from 1890-1895. It is in his name that the famed school tournament Harris Shield was established.
The great grandfather of Lord Harris was the chief general of East India Company against Tipu Sultan in the battle of Srirangapatna.
